ARAME Semi-Sweet Pomegranate Wine – an Armenian Gift in a Hand-Decorated Bottle

In Armenia the pomegranate (nur) is more than a fruit. It decorates carpets, ceramics and churches, and tradition says each one holds 365 seeds – one for every day of the year. At weddings the bride throws a pomegranate against a wall: the more seeds scatter, the more children she will have. Pomegranate wine is a bottle full of wishes for luck and plenty.

At the foot of Mount Ararat

The wine is made by MAP in the village of Lenughi, Armavir province. The winery was founded in 1942 to process the harvest of the fertile Ararat plain beneath the biblical Mount Ararat.

The brand is named after Arame, the first known king of Urartu – the ancient kingdom that ruled around Ararat in the 9th century BC and left some of the world’s oldest traces of winemaking.
