Papari Valley Chinuri-Rkatsiteli Qvevri – 3-bottle tasting set

This cuvée comes from 9.3 hectares of Papari Valley‘s own vineyards, which have been farmed on the slopes of the Gombori mountains without any mechanisation since 2004. The vines here are 12 to 25 years old — the old Soviet-era plantings were largely uprooted early on and replaced with vines better suited to the local terroir. Chinuri and Rkatsiteli grapes go into clay qvevri, where they ferment spontaneously and age with their skins thanks to the three-tier gravity “terrace method” — three bottles from this batch let you taste it gradually, on different occasions, and discover how it opens up with air.

• Qvevri ageing: grapes ferment spontaneously with wild yeasts directly in clay vessels buried underground.
• Gravity terraces: the winery’s natural three-tier slope replaces machinery entirely, without a single pump.
• Old vines: 12- to 25-year-old vines across 9.3 hectares of estate vineyard add concentration and depth.

• Colour: amber with golden highlights.
• Nose: ripe apple and pear, opening into herbs, hazelnut and marzipan with air.
• Palate: dry, full-bodied, noticeable tannins, candied fruit, honey and a faint earthy note on the finish.
