Nena Plum Compote – a Georgian fruit drink

Georgia’s warm summers call for refreshment, and that’s exactly what compote has long provided – a drink made by briefly boiling fruit with water and sugar, not preserved fruit pieces as one might expect in Central Europe. The resulting juice retains the fruit’s pure, natural flavour with no colourings or artificial flavourings, which is why it’s commonly served here instead of lemonade or cola-based drinks.

The Nena brand

These compotes are made by the Georgian brand Nena, founded in 2014 as part of the KTW (Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking) group. The company built two modern factories in the mountains of Guria and Adjara in western Georgia, where fruit from local farmers has been processed since September 2015. Nena focuses on 100% natural ingredients without antibiotics, pesticides or GMOs, and combines old family recipes with modern production technology.
