Pirosmani in a Clay Bottle – Semi-Dry Red Wine – 0,75 l

Pirosmani in a Clay Bottle – Georgian Semi-Dry Red Wine Named After a Legendary Painter

Niko Pirosmani (1862–1918) was a self-taught artist from the Kakhetian village of Mirzaani. He had no studio and no academy – he painted signboards for Tbilisi taverns and was often paid with a meal and a jug of wine. His canvases show feasting tables, toastmasters raising wine horns, the grape harvest and ordinary village people.

He died in poverty, yet today his works hang in major museums around the world. A wine carrying his name pays tribute to the Georgian culture of hospitality he loved to paint. Discover its roots in Georgian wine: making methods and history.

A bottle worth keeping

The clay bottle echoes a thousand-year tradition of storing wine in ceramics. It shields the wine from light and later serves as a decoration, vase or carafe – which is why Pirosmani is one of our favourite gift wines.

Taste and serving

The wine is made from Saperavi, the signature grape of Kakheti (see our guide to Georgian red wines). The semi-dry style brings a soft, unobtrusive sweetness that never masks the fruit.
