Old Kakheti Khvanchkara – Rare Semi-Sweet Red Wine from Mountainous Racha
Khvanchkara is one of Georgia’s rarest wines. Its vineyards lie in western Georgia, in the mountainous Racha-Lechkhumi region, on slopes above the Rioni river. The Khvanchkara micro-zone is small, and Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli are hardly grown anywhere else in the world. Only a limited amount is produced, and in Georgia it is a wine for special occasions.
Old Kakheti Khvanchkara is naturally semi-sweet: fermentation is stopped while part of the grape sugar (18–45 g/l) remains in the wine. It is produced by the KTW group, which offers classic Georgian wines under the Old Kakheti brand.
