Khvanchkara comes from a small micro-zone in the Racha-Lechkhumi region of western Georgia, where vineyards climb the slopes above the Rioni river. Both grapes it is made from are typical of this area and are hardly grown anywhere else. Production is therefore limited, and in Georgia the wine is seen as festive. As one of the protected Georgian appellations, it follows strict rules of origin. With a set of six, this rarity will be ready for every festive moment of the year.

Its sweetness is entirely natural – the winemaker ends fermentation when 18–45 g/l of grape sugar remains. Behind the wine is the KTW group and its Old Kakheti brand.

What it tastes like

• Colour: rich ruby
• Nose: strawberry, forest fruit, blackberry
• Palate: velvety, with gentle sweetness and fresh acidity

At the table

The ideal temperature is 12–14 °C. Khvanchkara complements fruit desserts, chocolate, roast duck or goose with fruit sauce and cheese. It is also lovely with walnut churchkhela.
