Old Kakheti Saperavi – Georgian Dry Red Wine from Kakheti, Aged in Oak

Saperavi is one of the oldest grape varieties in the world and one of the few with red flesh as well as red skin. That is where the name comes from: “saperavi” means “dye” or “the one that colours” in Georgian. It is the backbone of Georgian red wines, used for dry, semi-sweet and qvevri styles alike.

Old Kakheti is a brand of the KTW group (Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking), combining centuries-old Georgian winemaking traditions with modern technology. The grapes come from selected vineyards in Kakheti, the country’s leading wine region, and the wine is matured in oak casks, which add roundness and subtle spicy notes.

Tasting notes

• Colour: deep crimson
• Nose: ripe black fruit, sweet spice, complex varietal bouquet
• Palate: harmonious and balanced, with moderate tannins and a pleasant finish

Food pairing

Saperavi loves meat: Georgian shashlik, beef steak, lamb or dishes seasoned with khmeli-suneli. It also works well with mature cheeses. Serve at 16–18 °C.
