Biblioteka Semi-Sweet Pomegranate Wine – Armenian Wine Made from Pomegranates

Armenia is a country that treasures words and books like few others. Yerevan is home to the Matenadaran, one of the world’s richest collections of ancient manuscripts. The Biblioteka (“library”) brand carries that love of books forward: every bottle is meant as a chapter in the story of Armenian winemaking, written in flavours instead of words.

Behind the Biblioteka range is the family-run Manukyan winery in Kotayk Province, just outside Yerevan. The Manukyan family traces its roots to the village of Kosh, more than 1,700 years old, and the winery’s goal is to revive ancient Armenian winemaking traditions with modern technology.

The taste of pomegranate

The pomegranate is Armenia’s national symbol, and pomegranate wine is one of the country’s most iconic drinks. Biblioteka captures the fruit in full:

  • Colour: deep red-brown
  • Nose: fresh, slightly tangy, unmistakably pomegranate
  • Palate: velvety and fruit-forward, with gentle tannins, forest berries and chocolate
  • Finish: lasting fruitiness and a refreshing, slightly tart aftertaste

How to serve it

Serve chilled at 8–10 °C. Lovely with sweets, fresh fruit and light desserts, as well as cheese and delicate meat. It pairs beautifully with nutty sweets such as churchkhela. Discover more specialities in our Armenia category.
