Old Kakheti Kindzmarauli – Naturally Semi-Sweet Red Wine with Protected Designation of Origin
Kindzmarauli is one of Georgia’s most famous wines, and its name is more than a label. It is a protected appellation of origin: only wine made from Saperavi grapes grown in the small Kindzmarauli micro-zone near the town of Kvareli, at the foot of the Greater Caucasus, may carry it. Warm days and cool mountain nights give the grapes their high natural sugar.
The sweetness of Kindzmarauli does not come from added sugar. Fermentation is stopped by chilling the must, so part of the grapes’ natural sugar (18–45 g/l) stays in the wine. Find out how to recognise the genuine article in How to distinguish a real Kindzmarauli from a fake.

How to serve it
